ROHM develops 0.6mm high and ultra-thin high-brightness LED for entertainment products

ROHM has successfully developed two high-brightness LED products "SMLV56RGB1W1" and "SMLW56RGB1W1" (Fig. 1). In terms of brightness when white illuminates, the former is 1.7 cd and the latter is 1.8 cd. They are all products that integrate RGB tri-color components into one package. In addition to white, they can emit light of other colors. Imagine the back of the text and graphics used in the entertainment product to make it more eye-catching. Among them, SMLV56RGB1W1 is characterized by an improved packaging method to achieve the "world's thinnest" (the company) 0.6mm height. By reducing the size of the LED package, the distance between the text, the pattern and the LED package is lengthened to achieve uniform illumination (Figure 2). The thinning is achieved by extending the "FlatFrame structure" of the direct terminal from the frame. The minimum height of the original product is 1.4mm, which is too close to the irradiation surface, and there is a problem that the light is not uniformly illuminated and the LED can be seen through the product.

Sample shipments began in June 2009, and the sample prices were all 100 yen/piece. The new products will be mass-produced at Rohm Wako and ROHMSEMICONDUCTOR from August. It plans to produce 5 million monthly products.
