AMD promotes 28nm multi-stage flowsheets this year

AMD Chief Financial Officer, Interim CEO Thomas Seifert, revealed to the media a few days ago that the company expects to have a number of 28nm process chip products tape-out this quarter. However, he did not explicitly disclose whether these chips were made by TSMC or Global foundries.

Thomas Seifert said: “The company expects several 28nm products will be out of the box during the quarter. We will consider the risk performance and price to select the OEM partners of the product. But naturally, we will be the same as in the past with Global foundries. Work closely together.” The use of words was very cautious, and it did not rule out the possibility that new products were still being built by TSMC, and reiterated the sentiment with the brother company Global foundries.

Currently in the AMD roadmap, it includes a variety of 28nm products, including the APUs codenamed Krishna and Wichita, and the Southland Islands series of GPUs. According to the latest media reports, the series code of the southern islands includes islands: Tahiti Tahiti, NewZealand New Zealand, Lombok Lombok, and London place names: Heathrow Heathrow, Thames Thames, Wimbledon Wimbledon, Chelsea Chelsea.

It is unclear whether the AMD28nm chip that was first taped out in the current quarter belongs to those series, but it is reasonable to infer that it is a reasonable choice to first try a new process with a small core GPU.
