The mission and role of lighting designers are also sensitive to change with the times. In the early days of lighting design, it required to make the function of life upwards, and the result was an efficient, bright city and bright family life. However, this “bright” energy consumption is now accused of “the evil of society”, and the question of excessively bright is flooding in, and the lighting design has ushered in an era in which quality is better than quantity. Designing a happy, comfortable life within a limited energy range is a trend in modern lighting design. I also put the phrase "not just the 'light' design but the more attention to the 'shadow' design." At the beginning of the 21st century, there was no doubt about the statement that "comfort is the central keyword of lighting design." What is the "light design" for a comfortable life? This is a factor that is now considered comprehensively. However, as we look further into the later era, we can see that even the keywords "functionality" and "comfort" will be refreshed. The lighting of the new era is not only to stay in the behavior of lighting, but to become free to fly into space with self-illuminating materials and objects.

Due to technological advances, people can avoid the lack of freedom in electrical energy. Lighting designers can directly create things with life value and have a direct impact on people's inner world. Lighting design should not only be for brightly seeing objects, but also for expressing all the scenery in the field of vision. Light should directly affect the inner world of human beings. It should be deeper than a painting to make people The inner sadness is healed, and more emphasis is placed on moderate excitement and fighting the physical and mental illness. In order to respond to diverse values ​​of the times, the roles and achievements required by lighting designers will continue to evolve as the times change.

Our lighting designers have to be both sociologists, scientists and artists. This is the first answer to the above self-question. Lighting design has different requirements for each branch of sociology, science, and art. The design that is lacking in which branch is required will have a “crisis”. That is to say, design that ignores social requirements and economic principles cannot be established; but if it only advocates its social requirements and economic principles, interesting and beautiful lighting design may not be available. And in many occasions of design, although the scientific basis derived from many scientific investigations has to be used to convince the owners, there are also cases in which the results of the project can be very impressive if the reason is not sufficient. Moreover, many of the design results are obtained by the designer based on his accumulated artistic feelings. However, because the work obtained by feeling alone is not stable, there are many things that do not do well because of poor management of the interpersonal relationship and policies of the design. It is precisely because of this that in the world of lighting design, in order to give the society an enlightenment, to give people a shock, the balance of interest and accomplishment in social-science-art is indispensable. Although there are also things in the form of literary expressions that reflect the design of lighting design, the specific combination implementation is rational, and scientific-based arguments are very important. Of course, the scientific and technological advancement of lighting is very dazzling. Sometimes, as long as the latest lighting optics with new light sources are displayed, consumer lighting design is established. Despite this, it is also dangerous to merely express the novelty of technology. Lighting design is an act that combines science and technology into the living environment. We must correctly evaluate a large number of science and technology, and in the meantime there must be the courage to innovate life itself.
