ADI introduces a wideband frequency synthesizer with integrated voltage controlled oscillator (VCO)

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) today announced a wideband frequency synthesizer with integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that delivers breakthrough performance and flexibility for aerospace and defense, wireless infrastructure, and microwave point-to-point Various market applications such as links, electronic test and measurement, and satellite terminals. ADI's new ADF5610 wideband fractional-N frequency synthesizer features a single-chip design that outputs RF signals from 55MHz to 15GHz and offers the industry's lowest phase noise performance. Compared to an alternative solution that requires multiple narrowband GaAs voltage controlled oscillators and phase-locked loops (PLLs), the ADF5610 consumes 50% less power, is smaller in size, and has a simpler architecture, saving material costs and reducing time-to-market.

Developed in ADI's proprietary advanced SiGe BiCMOS process, the ADF5610 features high modulation bandwidth and low bit error rate. Its VCO phase noise is at the industry leading level (-10GHz operating frequency, -114dBc/Hz for 100kHz offset, -165dBc/Hz for 100MHz offset), and the normalized phase noise floor (FOM) is also low, -229dBc/ Hz. The integrated PLL function enables fast frequency hopping and lock-up times (less than 50μs with a suitable loop filter). The phase detector spur level is typically below -45dBc and the RF output power level is 6dBm.

The ADF5610 wideband fractional-N frequency synthesizer makes design entry easy and fully supported by ADIsimPLL. ADIsimPLL is a comprehensive, easy-to-use PLL frequency synthesizer design and simulation tool developed by Analog Devices to evaluate phase noise, lock-up time, jitter, and other design considerations. Customers can program the device by using an integrated SPI interface and control software.

The ADF5610 is specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. It can be operated with either 3.3V analog and digital nominal power supplies, or a 5 V charge pump and VCO power supply with 1.8 V logic level compatibility. The frequency synthesizer also features hardware and software power-down modes.

Ceramic PCB

Different from traditional FR-4 (plastic), ceramic materials have good high-frequency performance and electrical properties, and have properties that organic substrates do not have, such as high thermal conductivity, excellent chemical stability and thermal stability. Ideal packaging material for large scale integrated circuits and power electronic modules.
