Intel low-power display technology: let the notebook run for up to 28 hours

In addition to balancing performance and heat dissipation, the portable lightweight notebook is the biggest one that needs to be upgraded. Due to the size of the fuselage and the high consumption of high-performance hardware in all aspects, the existing thin and light books are difficult to significantly improve in battery life. This situation will change in the future because of the low-power display technology that Intel introduced at the Taipei Computer Show, which allows the battery life to be extended to 28 hours.

According to Intel's official data, the 28-hour battery life is achieved by playing local video files on a laptop equipped with i7-8550U (TDP 15W), 8GB RAM, Intel 600p SSD, and Windows 10 system. Of course, this notebook uses a 1W ultra-low power screen with low power display technology.

At present, this technology has been applied to the 1W display panel manufactured by Sharp and Innolux. This technology can reduce the power consumption of the LCD screen by half, resulting in an additional 4-8 hours of local video playback duration.

At the show, Intel revealed that it will launch a line of notebooks including the Whiskey Lake U series and the Amber Lake Y series later this year, both of which have been confirmed to be manufactured in 14nm process. However, the low-power display technology is still in the research and development stage, and the product landing time has not yet been determined.
