LLC Introduces New Quad Full-Bridge PWM Motor Driver IC

Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announced a new four-way DMOS full-bridge driver AMT49701 that can drive two stepper motors or four DC motors. The AMT49701 is designed for applications such as dual-axis, point-of-sale, office automation, security, surveillance, IP cameras, and industrial automation.

The new driver's full-bridge rated output can be as high as 1A and 18V, and it also includes a fixed off-time pulse width modulation (PWM) current regulator and a 2-bit nonlinear digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that allows Step, half and quarter steps control the stepper motor and control the DC motor in forward, reverse and coast modes. The PWM current regulator uses Allegro's patented hybrid attenuation mode to reduce audible noise, improve step accuracy, and reduce power consumption.

The AMT49701 has an internal synchronous rectification control circuit that can be used to reduce power consumption during PWM operation. The AMT49701's protection features include thermal shutdown with hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and cross current protection. No special power sequencing is required.

The AMT49701 is available in an EV, 6mm x 6mm, 36-pin QFN package with a nominal overall package height of 0.90mm and an exposed thermal pad for improved thermal performance. AMT49701 is a lead-free product with 100% matte tin plated leadframe.
